<image:title>My Story & Values - My Story</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a Latina transplant to Oregon from New Mexico and California. I have lived in Oregon for 14 years. I grew up in a mixed New Mexican, Guatemalan and European American/white home. I identify as mixed ethnically. I am a receptive bilingual in Spanish which means I understand a great deal verbally but cannot speak Spanish fluently and do not provide services in Spanish. I was raised in a high control religion and left that religion as a teen and have been on a journey since then of healing and repair from that experience. I am a parent and it was when I became a mother that I realized how much was left to be healed within myself if I was going to break intergenerational patterns of trauma. Before becoming a therapist in my mid-30’s, I was focused for most of my early adulthood in the arts - theater, dance, and video art. I still value creativity in my day to day life which currently looks like gardening, sewing, dance and video. I have always been drawn to wanting to understand what it means to be human - with its potential for joy and also for great struggle and suffering. I never get tired hearing the stories and experiences that shape and impact all of us.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Story & Values - My Values</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe the personal is political. Therapy is political. I will not remain neutral when it comes to the well being of all humans. I believe in fundamental human rights that include access to universal healthcare, food security, safe housing, clean air, clean water, safe neighborhoods to name only a few. I believe that many of the structures of our society are oppressive and are a huge contributor to both mental and physical health concerns - in particular white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism. Many folks would not have their current mental health struggles if they had access to these fundamental human rights and were free of the oppressive systems that dominate life in the United States. I will strive to acknowledge these larger oppressive systems and how they connect with your mental health. I am always striving to learn and grow with a focus on decolonizing myself and my therapy practice. I will always be open to feedback if I make mistakes because I will. There is no such thing as perfect, even as your therapist. I approach my work with humility and a spirit of learning and growth.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Story & Values - My Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>I know that it can be so difficult to know where to begin on your path towards feeling well and grounded. I am here to walk alongside you on your journey to offer support and guidance. I strive to create a place where you feel safe to share your deepest fears and concerns and know that I will be there to hold a safe, caring and non-judgmental space for you. I believe based on my own experience as a therapist and the research on how therapy works - that the therapeutic relationship is key for the therapy process to work. In that spirit, my approach is relational. I am a human just like you living in a world filled with hardship and suffering alongside beauty and magic. My approach is warm and compassionate. I approach my work with creativity and a playful spirit. My approach centers around helping you to connect with your body and your emotions. I don’t think there is a one size fits all when it comes to therapy. I bring my knowledge and training and also have deep respect for your ways of knowing and always seek to draw from both of our wells of wisdom. I am a therapist that values supporting clients to connect with their body and emotions as an important part of shifting out of the anxious mind and into more presence and wellbeing. Through our work together you will be able to learn how to feel worthy of rest and healing; experience more moments of being present in your life; and feeling more connected to your emotions and the world around you.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Story & Values - My Training</image:title>
<image:caption>I completed my Masters in Social Work at Portland State University in 2016. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon and Washington since Fall 2020. I completed my BA in 2002 from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Dramatic Art and Cultural Anthropology. The focus of my training and work for over a decade was with children, youth and families running after school programs and then transitioning to being a therapist to kids and teens from age 7-21. During my work in community mental health I completed my Basic EMDR Training in 2019. I began to work more and more with adults and realized I wanted to shift the focus of my work to adults only. My training and understanding about child development is helpful for adults healing childhood wounds as well as for adults that are caregiving for small humans.</image:caption>
